It is not really eight-dimensional
The name is marketing. What is actually happening is a single sound source being moved in a circle around your head, and your brain reading the result as motion. There are no eight dimensions and no extra channels — the output is ordinary stereo.
What makes it convincing is HRTF: a head-related transfer function, a model of how your head, ears and shoulders colour sound arriving from each direction. The browser applies it per position, which is why this sounds like movement rather than simple left-right panning.
Why headphones are non-negotiable
HRTF works by delivering a precisely different signal to each ear. Speakers cannot do that — both ears hear both speakers, the cues cross-cancel, and the effect collapses into ordinary stereo wobble. There is no fix for this; it is physics, not a setting.
Choosing the speed
Six to ten seconds per rotation is the range almost all published 8D tracks use. Faster than about four seconds starts to feel like a novelty effect rather than space, and can make people genuinely queasy. Slower than fifteen and the movement stops registering as movement.
Room reverb is on by default because it helps: reverb gives your brain distance cues, and without them the orbit feels like it is happening inside your skull rather than around it.

Will it work on any song?
It works best on tracks with clear separated elements. Dense, heavily compressed mixes move as one block, which is less interesting. Mono sources actually work very well, since there is no existing stereo image to fight with.
Is my audio uploaded?
No. The panning is applied in the page itself — the file never leaves your device.
