Where the numbers come from
Ordinary clicking runs around 6 to 8 a second. The higher scores people quote come from specific techniques: jitter clicking tenses the arm so it vibrates, reaching perhaps 10–14; butterfly clicking alternates two fingers on one button; drag clicking exploits friction to register many clicks from one motion, sometimes hundreds.
Worth knowing that the last two are banned on many Minecraft servers, and that jitter clicking involves deliberately tensing to induce tremor — which people do report causing wrist pain.
What it does to a mouse
Mouse switches are rated for a number of actuations — commonly 20 million, which sounds like plenty until you divide it by ten clicks a second. Drag clicking in particular wears switches quickly, and double-clicking from a single press is the usual symptom of a worn one.
