The recording does not go anywhere
Audio from the microphone is captured into the page and written to a file you download. There is no server, no account and no storage. Close the tab before downloading and the recording is gone — which is a real limitation and the necessary consequence of nothing being uploaded.
Browsers require permission and show a recording indicator throughout, which is worth trusting more than any claim a page makes about itself.
Getting a usable recording
Distance to the microphone matters more than the microphone. Speaking at a hand’s width gives a far better signal-to-noise ratio than a good microphone across a room, and no processing recovers what distance loses.
Soft furnishings kill the reverberation that makes a room recording sound hollow. Recording facing a curtain or a sofa is a genuine improvement over facing a bare wall.
Frequently asked questions
Where is my recording stored?
Nowhere but the page. Download it before closing the tab — nothing is kept on a server, which also means nothing can be recovered.
Why does it sound hollow?
Room reverberation. Move closer to the microphone and record facing something soft rather than a bare wall.
Why will my microphone not work?
Permission is needed, and it is only offered on a secure connection. Check the browser has not blocked it for this site and that no other application has the device.
